Shelf liner is the answer to your fridge lunch problem

Shelf liner — the same rubbery mesh stuff you line kitchen drawers with — stops your lunch box from sliding around or tipping over in a shared office fridge.

Cut a piece to fit the shelf, lay it down, and you’re done. The liner grips the bottom of your Tupperware, your paper bag, even that wobbly plastic takeout container. Nothing drifts into someone else’s yogurt, and nothing falls over when you walk away. It costs three bucks at any big box store.

The tipping usually isn’t your lunch box’s fault. It’s the fridge door. Every time someone opens it, the whole shelf tilts and your container takes a dive. So if you don’t want to install a liner, at least stop using the door shelves — the main shelves don’t move.

Other quick wins: use a squat, wide container instead of a tall skinny one (physics, basically), or put your lunch inside a small plastic basket or caddy. The basket absorbs the chaos and keeps your stuff in one place.

Your coworkers will thank you when they stop fishing your hummus out of their salad drawer.
