Silicone honeycomb backing is safer on glass.

For a glass desk, silicone honeycomb backing gives you the grip without the ghosting.

Natural rubber is grippy — maybe even slightly more initial friction — but it’s not a great long-term pairing with glass. Over time, the rubber can leave a cloudy residue or even bond slightly to the surface, especially in heat or humidity. That residue is a pain to clean and can look permanent. Silicone, on the other hand, is chemically inert. It doesn’t degrade or react with glass. The honeycomb pattern adds surface tension and actually creates little suction cups, so it stays put.

Not all silicone backings are created equal. Avoid pads with a sprayed-on silicone coating; it wears off. You want a mat that’s molded with a solid silicone base. That’ll last years and slide nowhere.

Your glass desk will thank you.
