Silicone liners beat a fancy bento box

Silicone liners make any regular lunch box work like a bento box — no need to buy new gear.

The trick is simple: use silicone muffin cups, baking cups, or purpose-made silicone food cups as little compartments inside your existing lunch box. They hold food in place, keep sauces from leaking into your sandwich, and stop the apple from rolling into the salad. Toss in a couple of silicone cups and your lunch instantly has sections.

If you want to get a little more organized, buy a set of collapsible silicone containers or larger bento-style cups that sit side by side in a standard lunch box. They’re flexible, food-safe, microwave-friendly, and wash right out. A regular lunch box plus a few silicone cups is basically a bento box — just with less plastic and a lower price tag.
