Silicone lunch boxes are a good choice, and a quality one will hold up better than the average plastic container over a few years of daily use.

Good food-grade silicone is flexible, heat-safe, and doesn’t leach plastic chemicals. It won’t shatter or crack when dropped, and it collapses flat when empty, which is great for a packed lunch.

Plastic eventually scratches, stains, warps in the dishwasher, and holds onto odors. Silicone can still get stained by tomato sauce or turmeric, but that’s cosmetic — a hot soapy soak or baking soda scrub fixes it. It resists smells far better than plastic.
