Silicone lunch boxes: skip the fancy ones, get the simple ones

For easy cleaning, the best silicone lunch box is a one-piece mold—no compartments, no plastic clips, just one slab of food-grade silicone with a lid.

Silicone is naturally non-stick, so a smooth surface wipes clean. The problem is most “silicone lunch boxes” add rigid plastic frames, multiple compartments, or hinges for structure, which creates seams and crevices where food gets stuck. That defeats the purpose. The best I’ve used is actually the Stasher large bag—it flips inside out, goes in the dishwasher, and holds a sandwich and snacks. If you need something more box-shaped, look for a simple silicone container with molded-in dividers, not separate parts.

Check that it’s 100% food-grade silicone (no plastic smell when you open it), and make sure the lid is just as simple as the body. The fewer parts, the better.
