SJOOW lasts longer in sunlight than SJTW
Yes, SJOOW is the better choice for direct sun exposure.
The practical difference boils down to the jacket material. SJTW is thermoplastic (PVC-based). It’s cheaper, more flexible in the cold, and fine indoors or in shade. But PVC softens when hot and degrades under UV light. Leave an SJTW cord in direct sunlight for a few months, and the jacket gets brittle and cracks.
SJOOW uses a thermoset rubber (neoprene or EPDM). It handles higher temperatures, resists UV, and stays flexible in the cold. It’s heavier and stiffer, but that’s the trade-off for durability. If your cord lives outside, SJOOW will last years longer.
That said, for indoor use or occasional outdoor use in shade, SJTW is perfectly fine and cheaper. Don’t overbuy.
If the cord sees real sun every day, go SJOOW. Future you will thank you when you don’t have to replace it next season.
