Skip the bento. Get a structured lunch tote.

If you’re hauling multiple small meal-prep containers, you want a boxy, insulated lunch tote — not a bento box or a flimsy bag.

Bento boxes are fine for a single meal, but they lock you into fixed compartments. Your meal prep containers are already the perfect size. You just need a carrier that holds them without crushing or spilling. A structured tote with a flat bottom and a wide opening does that. You can slide two or three 2-cup containers side by side, or stack them if the bag is tall enough.

Soft-sided totes look nice but collapse around the food. Look for something with stiff sides and a wide mouth. And measure your containers before you buy. A 2-cup Pyrex dish is about 6 inches square — so a bag at least 10 inches wide and 8 inches tall will fit most setups comfortably.

You don’t need to spend a fortune. A simple insulated bag from Arctic Zone or an old-school LL Bean tote works better than half the “bento” products marketed for meal prep. Just make sure it actually fits your containers.

Future you will appreciate not digging through a pile of spilled hummus.
