Skip the combo sunscreen-and-bug-spray.
Apply them separately. Combination products sound convenient, but they make it harder to protect yourself properly.
Sunscreen needs reapplying every two hours (or after swimming/sweating). Bug repellent often lasts much longer—six to eight hours for DEET, less for others. Rub on a combo and you’re either over-applying repellent or under-applying sunscreen. Plus, DEET can actually lower SPF effectiveness by about a third if mixed in the same bottle.
Better to layer them: sunscreen first (wait a minute or two to dry), then repellent on top. That way you can reapply sunscreen without messing with the bug protection. It’s two steps instead of one, but sunburns and Lyme disease are both worse than thirty extra seconds.
Your skin and your sanity will thank you.
