Skip the fancy bento. Get glass meal prep containers.
For weekly meal prep, the “best lunch box” is a stack of three-compartment glass containers, not a single fancy box.
Bento boxes — Yumbox, Bentgo, the pretty Japanese ones — are designed for one meal eaten that day. Small compartments, shallow wells, and portions sized for a sandwich and grapes. They’re fine for an office lunch but wrong for someone cooking five meals on a Sunday.
The actual workhorse is the glass meal prep container with dividers. The kind sold in 5-packs by Prep Naturals, Ello, or Bayco. They’re microwave safe, dishwasher safe, and stack neatly in the fridge. Prep five identical lunches on Sunday, grab one each morning, and you’re done. The sealed lids keep the leaks where they belong, and you can reheat right in the container.
The only reason to go bento is if you eat everything cold and want something lighter to carry. Then get a stainless steel bento — but you’re paying more for less capacity and zero microwaveability.
Your Sunday self has enough to do without fiddling with five separate Tupperware lids.
