Skip the fancy zero-waste lunch box—get a jar and a wrap

The best zero-waste lunch setup isn’t a fancy box—it’s a glass container and a beeswax wrap.

Think about what you’re actually packing. A sandwich? Wrap it in a beeswax cloth. Soup, yogurt, or salad dressing? Put it in a mason jar. Leftover rice or pasta? A glass meal-prep container with a tight lid. That covers 90% of lunches without buying another “system” that’ll sit in your cabinet.

Glass is the move because it doesn’t stain, doesn’t absorb smells, and you can see what’s in it. The plastic lids are fine—they don’t touch the food. If you really want an all-in-one, a stainless steel bento box works, but it costs more and hides what’s inside. You’re not paying for anything fancy here; you’re just not throwing away zip-lock bags and foil every day.

The trick is to buy a couple of things you’ll actually rotate, not a full boutique kit. One or two glass containers, a two-pack of beeswax wraps, and a wide-mouth mason jar will get you through most work weeks.

Zero-waste is about using what you have, not buying another kit.
