Skip the footbridges. Stick to paved paths.
No, there isn’t one specific footbridge or path that works for every stroller or wheelchair — because the surface matters way more than the structure.
Footbridges are often made of wooden planks that warp, split, or develop gaps over time. Even a small gap can catch a front wheel and send the whole thing sideways. And the narrow width? A nightmare for turning around if you meet someone coming the other way. Concrete or asphalt paths are boring, but they’re stable. No surprises.
If you absolutely have to cross a footbridge, look for one with a solid concrete deck and no expansion joints big enough to swallow a caster wheel. Better yet, find a paved multi-use trail that goes under or around the obstacle.
Your chair or stroller will thank you for choosing pavement over planks.
