Skip the lunch box. Get glass containers and a tote.

The best meal-prep lunch setup isn’t one lunch box—it’s a stack of rectangular glass containers that sit in the fridge and drop into an insulated tote when you head out.

A hard-sided lunch box is bad at both jobs. It doesn’t stack well in the fridge, and you’d just be putting containers inside another container. What you want is a proper insulated lunch tote for carrying, and a set of glass meal prep containers for storing.

For the containers, go with rectangular 3-compartment glass ones with snap-on lids—brands like Prep Naturals or Snapware work well. The flat top and rectangle shape are what let you pile six of them on the fridge shelf without everything turning into a Jenga game. Glass also means you can microwave and eat right out of the same dish you prepped in, which is the whole point.

If glass feels too heavy to haul to work every day, the next best thing is Rubbermaid Brilliance—plastic, leakproof, stacks great. But you’ll be pouring your lunch onto a plate to reheat, so that’s the tradeoff.

The system is: stack on Sunday, grab one each morning, tote it wherever you’re going. That’s the whole game.
