Skip the Morning Wash This Winter

Skipping your morning face wash in winter is often a good idea to preserve natural oils.

Your skin’s barrier already takes a beating from cold air outside and dry heat inside. Washing with cleanser first thing strips away the oils your face worked all night to produce. If you’re not waking up greasy, just splash with lukewarm water or use a gentle toner. Save the full cleanse for evening when you’re actually removing dirt, sunscreen, and the day’s grime.

The exception? If you have very oily skin or use heavy overnight treatments that leave a residue, you might need a light cleanse. But for most people, especially those prone to dryness or irritation, that morning wash is doing more harm than good.

Your face will thank you for letting it keep its winter coat.
