Skip the multi-latch bento. Get a Yumbox.
For toddlers, the easiest lunch boxes to open are ones with a single magnetic clasp or one big zipper—anything with two or more latches is going to require adult help, and that defeats the whole point.
The Yumbox is the winner here. It has one magnetic flip clasp on the front, the lid pops up, and even a two-year-old can manage it. The sections keep food from touching, which is a bonus if your kid has opinions about that kind of thing. It’s not cheap, but it’s the rare toddler product that actually does what it claims.
If you’d rather go cheaper, something like the Munchkin Bento Lunch with a single hinged latch works okay. Skip the Bentgo Kids—two latches are fine for a four-year-old but frustrating for a two-year-old. And absolutely avoid the OmieBox and anything with a buckle or a clip. Those look cute and are a pain in the butt for small hands.
One thing nobody warns you about: the lunch box is only half the battle. The pouches, string cheese wrappers, and yogurt tubes inside are what your toddler will actually hand back to you mid-cry. That’s a separate problem.
Your toddler will still ask for help opening the Yumbox sometimes anyway. But at least this way, they won’t have to.
