The only leak-proof lunch containers worth your money have a silicone gasket and locking clips on all four sides—so don’t even look at lids that just pop on.

It’s that simple. The gasket does the actual sealing, and the clips hold it flat against the rim. Snap-on lids work okay until the container gets bumped, the plastic warps, or a bit of hummus dries on the edge. Then you get yogurt all over your work bag.

For real brands: Rubbermaid Brilliance is boring but reliable and cheap. OXO Good Grips are a step up if you don’t mind spending more. Glasslock is the pick when you prefer glass over plastic—just check that the lid has four clips and a rubber ring.
