Skip the washable filter box fan—get a real air purifier

There are a handful of box fans with washable filters, but they won’t do much for actual allergy season.

The washable filters on fans like the Lasko or Honeywell are usually thin foam or electrostatic mesh. They catch dust bunnies and maybe some pet hair, but pollen, mold spores, and fine particulate? Nope. Those particles are way too small. A washable filter is basically a coarse sieve—great for keeping the fan blades clean, useless for your sinuses.

If you’re set on the box fan route, the real move is the Corsi-Rosenthal box: tape a MERV-13 furnace filter to the back of a standard box fan. Cheap, effective, and you swap the filter when it’s dirty. The washable built-in filters are a compromise that doesn’t solve the problem.
