Slim cabinets win for entryway clutter.

For actually decluttering a small entryway, a slim shoe cabinet is better than a wall-mounted rack.

Wall-mounted racks expose every shoe all the time. Even if you arrange them neatly, it’s visual noise. You walk in and see a pile of shoes hanging there. It’s tidy chaos, not decluttered. Cabinets hide everything behind a door. Your entryway instantly looks clean — like there are zero shoes.

Slim cabinets are usually around 8–12 inches deep, so they fit in most hallways. Some have tilted shelves or drawers that hold more than you expect. The trade-off is floor space: a cabinet sits on the ground, while a wall rack leaves the floor clear. But in a small entry, that floor area isn’t usable for much else anyway, and a cabinet can double as a shelf for keys or a plant.

If your entryway is extremely narrow (like less than 7 inches of depth), the wall rack might be your only option. In that case, accept it as a functional compromise, not a decluttering win.
