Smooth vinyl is the enemy

Smooth vinyl inflatables always slide; the fix is either a non-slip surface or a body position change.

The problem is physics, not you. That glossy plastic gets a thin film of water under you, and suddenly you’re the human slip-and-slide. Sitting upright makes it worse because your weight is concentrated in one spot while the rest of the raft floats free.

Your best move is to stop fighting it. Lie flat and spread your weight across the whole raft. Keep your body centered instead of leaning on one edge. If that doesn’t work, the float itself is the issue — look for one with a fabric cover or a textured surface, or something with a built-in backrest or cooler that gives you a lip to hold onto.

For the float you already own, try inflating it a little less. A softer raft flexes around your body instead of acting like a slippery tray. If you’re still sliding, it’s time to trade it in. There
