Yes, the soapy water test is the safest and most reliable way to check for propane leaks. Forget flame tests, electronic sniffers, or just “feeling around” – a spray bottle with a few drops of dish soap in water catches every leak without any risk.

Mix a tablespoon of dish soap in a spray bottle of water, shake it up, and spray every connection point on your grill: where the propane tank valve meets the regulator, all along the hose, and the connections to the burner tubes. Then turn on the gas (just the tank, not the grill burners) and watch for bubbles. If you see bubbles forming, you’ve got a leak. Tighten the connection, test again. If it still bubbles, replace the part.
