Only if you don’t buy enough capacity. Soldered RAM runs at the same speed as a regular stick of the same spec—no performance penalty from the soldering itself.

The real issue is that you can’t upgrade later. If you pick 8GB and your video editing project gets heavy, you’re stuck. 16GB or 32GB soldered? No problem. Speed is set at purchase, and it’s usually solid.

So the risk isn’t soldered vs. socketed. It’s committing to a size that might not be enough in a few years. Buy more than you think you need, and you’ll be fine.
