Spin it a few times, then park it at TDC

Rotate the engine over a few times after fogging, then finish with the piston at top dead center. Do both — they’re not either/or.

Spraying oil in the cylinder only coats what it hits. The piston rings are sitting partway down, so most of the cylinder wall above them stays dry unless you turn the crank and sweep the rings up and down. A few pulls distribute the oil where it matters and give the rings a nice protective film.

But don’t stop there. After rotating, bring the piston to TDC so both valves are closed. That seals the cylinder from moisture and air, which is what actually causes rust during long storage. If you just spray and leave it at TDC without turning, the oil sits in a puddle on top of the piston and does nothing for the cylinder walls. If you rotate and let it stop anywhere, one of the valves might be open, letting humid air creep in.

Rotate it a few times, set it to TDC, and you’re done. Extra ten seconds for a season of protection. Worth it.
