Stackable bins and a purge are your only options.

For small apartment storage, you need to be ruthless about what you keep and then use vertical space with stackable bins.

First, go through everything. Be honest: are you ever going to use that chipped ornament from 2016? The tangled garland that shed glitter everywhere? The plastic snowman that’s missing an arm? You’re storing stuff out of guilt, not joy. Toss it or donate it. You don’t have room for sentimental clutter you never look at.

Now, the real storage. You don’t have an attic, so you’re limited to:

• Under the bed. Get low-profile bins that slide under your bed frame. Bonus: they’re flat and stackable.
• Top of closets. Use high shelves for holiday-specific bins that you only touch once a year.
• Above kitchen cabinets or in a hall closet. Stackable clear bins so you can see what’s inside without pulling everything down.
• For soft items like wreaths or fabric decorations, vacuum storage bags compress them flat and you can slide under a sofa or mattress.

Label everything clearly. Use a sharpie on the top of each bin. “Xmas lights” “Ornaments” “Tree stand” — not “decorations.” You will forget what’s in there by next December.

One more thing: don’t store your tree in a box that takes up half your living room. Get a slim artificial tree that folds flat or just buy a fresh one every year. I know it’s not for everyone, but it saves a ton of space.

Future you will thank you for not storing junk you didn’t need in the first place.
