Stainless steel lunch boxes are worth it
Stainless steel lunch boxes are worth it for anyone who eats lunch more than once a week.
The big one nobody talks about: plastic leaches. Put hot food in it, and you’re eating a little bit of your container. Stainless steel is inert — nothing gets into your food. You also can’t microwave steel, which sounds like a downside until you realize reheating plastic is the main reason you’re drinking microplastics with your leftover pasta.
The other thing nobody warns you about: plastic holds onto smells and stains. Tomato sauce, curry, garlic — that Tupperware you’ve had since college is basically flavored by every meal it’s ever touched. Steel wipes clean and doesn’t care what you put in it.
Steel also just lasts. It survives the dishwasher, the car floor, being dropped on concrete. Plastic cracks, warps, and scratches — and scratches are where bacteria like to hang out. The only real tradeoff is weight, and it’ll outlive a dozen plastic containers.
You’ll feel a little like your mom packed your lunch the first week, but that goes away.
Future You will still be using that thing in ten years.
