Start with vegetables and you'll stop counting calories
To pack a compact lunch without blowing your calorie budget, build the meal around vegetables and lean protein, then leave the rest to small portions of carbs and fats.
The box size isn’t the problem. You can easily pack 700+ calories into a small container if you fill it with rice, pasta, nuts, or cheese. Those foods are calorie-dense and don’t leave room for much else. Instead, let the space constraint do the dieting for you.
Fill half the box with non-starchy vegetables — raw, roasted, or pickled. They give you volume and crunch without adding much. Then add a good serving of protein: chicken, tuna, eggs, tofu, or whatever you like. That’s the part that keeps you full. The rest of the space can go to a sensible scoop of a grain or fruit and maybe a tablespoon of something fatty like dressing or shredded cheese. That covers the “complete” part without the calorie math getting ridiculous.
Your small lunch box is actually an advantage. It forces you to pick the foods that earn their space. The vegetables and protein fill you up, the carbs and fats just add the finishing touch.
The box does the portion control — you just have to stock it with the right stuff.
