Die-cut edges look clean out of the box, but they fray over time. That frayed edge ruins the whole clean desk vibe — and if you’re going for minimalist, you probably notice stuff like that.
Stitched edges don’t fray, last years longer, and stay looking sharp. The only downside is the stitching can be slightly raised, which might bug you if you run your fingers along the edge. But most modern stitched pads are low-profile enough that it’s not an issue.
Die-cut pads are cheaper and flatter, but they’re temporary. If you replace your mousepad every year, die-cut is fine. If you want something that still looks good in three years, get stitched.
A fraying mousepad is not minimal.
