Stitched edges aren't the cable killer you think.
Probably not. The real problem is your cable routing, not the stitching.
Most modern stitched edges are smooth and low-profile. They won’t saw through your mouse cable like a cheese grater — unless you’re actively running the cable back and forth across the same spot for thousands of hours. Even then, a braided cable will hold up better than a rubber one, but neither is going to fray from a decent stitched edge alone.
The actual culprit is friction from the cable dragging across the desk or pad edge repeatedly. A mouse bungee fixes that by lifting the cable, removing tension and contact. Without one, you’re just adding unnecessary wear no matter what kind of pad you use.
The stitched edge is a red herring. Focus on the bungee.
