Strap the damn lunch box down

Soft-sided lunch boxes are the fix — they wedge into a backpack or under a seat without sliding anywhere.

Hard plastic containers are the problem. They have zero grip and they rattle around like loose change. If you’re stuck with one, wrap it in a cloth napkin or put it in a canvas tote that fills the space. But honestly, buying a soft insulated one with a strap or handle solves 90% of this.

For a car specifically: run the seatbelt through the lunch box handle before you buckle it. That takes three seconds and it’s not going anywhere, even on a hard brake. Or use a cheap non-slip shelf liner on the passenger seat. Both work.

For a backpack: don’t toss it in on top of your books. Pack it vertically, flat against the back panel of the bag. Books go in front of it. That keeps it from surfing around, and it also protects your food from getting smashed.

This is not a problem you need to buy a fancy solution for. A strap, a wedge, or a soft bag. Done.
