Streaks are a trap. Use calendar heatmaps instead.
During Q1 plateau weeks, the most motivational data visualization is a calendar heatmap combined with a rolling 7-day average line — not a streak counter.
Streaks look great on day 12. On day 36 they’re a ticking time bomb. You miss one day, the streak resets, and suddenly you feel like a failure even though you’ve been consistent for weeks. That’s the opposite of motivation.
A calendar heatmap (like GitHub’s contribution graph) shows density over time. You can still see “I showed up 6 out of 7 days” — which looks green, not empty. That’s progress. Pair it with a rolling 7-day average line chart, and you get a trend that actually trends upward during plateaus because it smooths out the daily noise. Your average goes up even if today wasn’t your best day
