Sunlight beats scrubbing for fruit stains

Sunlight is the best trick for getting tomato or berry stains out of plastic. Wash the container first, then leave it in direct sun for a few hours. The UV light breaks down the pigments that cause the stain. It sounds like a grandma hack, but it genuinely works.

If you can’t wait for sun, make a paste of baking soda and a little water (or dish soap) and let it sit on the stain for 15–20 minutes before scrubbing gently. The mild abrasion lifts the dye without scratching the plastic. Don’t go full-force with a scouring pad — scratches just give the next stain a place to hide.

One thing to skip: bleach. It can yellow or cloud food-grade plastic and leave a smell that lingers. Same goes for harsh abrasive cleaners. Keep it simple.

If the stain is really old and dried in, a soak in warm water with a denture tablet or a bit of dish soap usually softens it enough to lift. But honestly, sun is the move. Stubborn stains in plastic are mostly a UV problem, and UV solves it.
