Sunlight is the best deodorizer for stinky plastic lunch boxes

Sunlight is the most underrated fix for a plastic lunch box that smells like onion or garlic.

Plastic is porous, so the odor gets trapped in the surface. Vinegar and baking soda can help a little, but they often just mask the smell for a day. UV light actually breaks down the odor compounds at the molecular level. It works better than any scrub you’ll do by hand.

Wash the box normally, then leave it open and upside down in direct sun for a few hours. A balcony or windowsill works. If you don’t have direct sun, try a thick baking soda paste smeared on the inside and let it sit overnight before rinsing. But sunlight is the real fix.

I wouldn’t bother with lemon juice or newspapers unless you’re in a pinch. They leave their own weird smells in the plastic. Just use the sun and be done with it.
