Sunlight is the real stain remover

For tomato and turmeric stains on plastic lunch boxes, the winning combo is a baking soda paste and direct sunlight.

Scrub the stain with a paste of baking soda and a little water (or lemon juice if you want extra acidity), then rinse it off. Now do the magic part: set the box in direct sunlight for a few hours. Sunlight breaks down the pigments in turmeric and tomato that ordinary dish soap leaves behind.

Why it works: turmeric is a strong natural dye, and tomato’s lycopene is oily. Baking soda pulls the stain to the surface, and UV rays actually degrade the pigment molecules. It’s the same reason a stained plastic container looks clean after sitting on a sunny windowsill.

One thing: don’t use an abrasive scrubber or you’ll scratch the plastic, which gives stains more places to hide. A soft sponge works fine. And if the stain is stubborn, hit it with a second round of paste and sun. No bleach, no harsh chemicals.
