Sunscreen won't make you vitamin D deficient.
No, sunscreen is not going to give you a vitamin D deficiency.
The idea sounds logical on paper: block UVB rays, block vitamin D production. But in practice, nobody applies sunscreen perfectly. You miss spots, you don’t reapply, you don’t use enough. Even with diligent use, your skin still gets enough incidental sun exposure to maintain adequate levels for most people.
If you’re really worried, eat fatty fish, drink fortified milk, or take a cheap vitamin D supplement. The skin cancer protection from sunscreen is well-documented. The “vitamin D deficiency from sunscreen” risk is mostly theoretical and not backed by real-world data.
Your skin will thank you more than your bones will miss a few minutes of UV.
