Swap the habit, don't drop the streak
When an injury stops you from your usual gym habit, the smartest move is to swap in a recovery-friendly alternative and keep your tracking streak alive with a modified definition.
Q1 is all about momentum. If you break the chain entirely, you’re more likely to just never come back. But you also shouldn’t push through pain. So the fix is simple: temporarily redefine the habit.
If your habit was “go to the gym”, change it to “do 15 minutes of rehab/mobility” or “walk for 20 minutes”. If you track with an app or journal, just rename the goal or add a note. The key is that you’re still checking the box each day. That keeps the psychological streak going, which is way more important than the exact activity.
