Tall RAM and big air coolers don't mix.

Probably.

Most tower-style CPU coolers overhang the RAM slots. If your cooler already sits close to the DIMMs, taller heatspreaders (like those with RGB or chunky fins) will physically block the fan or the heatsink itself. Standard RAM is around 30–33mm tall; “tall” RAM can hit 40–50mm. Many big air coolers only clear RAM up to 35–40mm on the first slot.

Motherboard layout matters too. Some boards offset the RAM slots further from the socket, giving you more room. Others cram them right up against the cooler. Check your cooler’s official clearance spec (Noctua lists these for every model) and compare it to your RAM height.

If you already own the cooler and want to upgrade, you have options: buy low-profile RAM (no tall heatspreaders), move the cooler fan higher or to the rear (losing some airflow), or switch to an AIO liquid cooler that sits away from the RAM entirely.

Measure twice, buy once.
