Tap it, don't wash it.
The easiest way to wreck your robot vacuum’s filter is to run it under the tap. Most robot vacs use a HEPA or foam filter that gets clogged with fine dust. Water turns that dust into mud, and the filter never dries properly, leading to mold or a clogged motor.
Just take the filter outside and tap it firmly against the inside of a trash can. That knocks out 90% of the dust. If it’s still dirty, use a soft brush (the little cleaning tool that came with the vacuum is perfect) to gently brush the pleats in one direction. No scrubbing, no water.
For really greasy or smelly filters, some manufacturers say you can rinse them if you let them dry for 24+ hours. Check your manual. Otherwise, a new filter is like fifteen bucks. Replace it every few months instead of trying to deep clean it.
Your robot will breathe better, and so will your house.
