Textured mousepads will eat your PTFE feet faster.
Yes, they will. Hard, textured surfaces like diamond-pattern pads act like sandpaper on soft PTFE skates.
PTFE is intentionally soft so it glides smoothly. A rough surface has microscopic peaks that scrape off material with every swipe. Diamond patterns are especially aggressive because they dig into the plastic more than a simple cloth weave. You are essentially accelerating normal wear by a lot—weeks instead of months, depending on pressure and cleanliness.
If you love the control of a textured pad, plan on replacing mouse feet more often. Or buy extra skates upfront. Or pick a smoother surface like a fine-weave cloth or a glass pad (which wears differently but evenly). The tradeoff is grip versus longevity. That is fine if you know it and budget for it.
Personally, I would not use a diamond-pattern pad with expensive lightweight mice unless I had spare feet already in the drawer.
