Yes, it repels small spills at first, but repeated cleaning — especially with alcohol wipes — will degrade it faster than you’d think. Within a few months, you’re basically using a regular pad.

The coating works by creating a microscopically textured surface that water beads up on. But every time you wipe it down, you’re mechanically wearing that texture down. Combine that with oils from your skin, dust, and general use, and the hydrophobic effect is temporary. Most manufacturers don’t advertise durability, and few last beyond a year of normal cleaning.

If you want real water protection, get a hard plastic surface or a silicone mat. The coated cloth ones are just gimmicks that feel good for the first week.

Save the hype for something that lasts longer.
