The 1968 Promo for 'Jumpin' Jack Flash': Director and Bizarre Prop

The promotional film for the Stones’ 1968 single ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash’ was directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg—the same guy who’d later shoot the Beatles’ rooftop concert for Let It Be. At the time, Lindsay-Hogg was a young TV director making surreal little films for the band, and this one might be his weirdest.

The strange prop is a giant inflatable balloon shaped like a woman’s face, complete with lips and flowing hair. Mick Jagger bounces around it, lipsyncs to the lyrics, and even appears to kiss it at one point. The whole thing feels like a trippy dream from a B-movie, which is exactly the vibe the Stones wanted in 1968.
