The 1974 Wembley Empire Pool Bootleg: Extended 'Echoes' Coda with Gilmour Slide Guitar

This is the legendary soundboard bootleg from Pink Floyd’s November 16, 1974 show at the Empire Pool in Wembley. It’s often called the “Wembley 1974” or “Empire Pool” bootleg, and its main draw is a full performance of “Echoes” that runs about 24 minutes — two minutes longer than the studio version — because of an extended coda that builds into a rare David Gilmour slide guitar solo.

Gilmour almost never used a slide live, but on this night he pulled it out for the final section, letting the melody float over a bubbling bass-and-keyboard drone. The rest of the set is also strong — a tight Dark Side of the Moon run, plus “Raving and Drooling” and “You Gotta Be Crazy” (early versions of songs that would become Animals). The recording quality is excellent for the era, straight from the soundboard, making it a prized document of Pink Floyd mid-tour, just before they fully locked into the polished machine they’d become.
