The 1975’s 2019–2020 “Notes on a Conditional Form” tour (often lumped under the “Music for Cars” era) featured a massive, 200-foot-long inflatable penis that would rise from the stage floor during songs like “I Like America & America Likes Me.” It was intentionally absurd and confrontational, meant to critique censorship and conservative moral panics.

The reaction was split: fans ate it up, but local authorities in several Asian markets didn’t. The inflatable was banned or voluntarily removed in cities like Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, and Manila after government warnings and threats of show cancellations.
