The best meal prep lunch box is boring
For meal prepping a week of lunches, simple stackable glass containers with locking lids beat every fancy lunch box out there.
The whole point of Sunday prep is that you cook once and grab-and-go for five days. That means you need something that stacks in the fridge, survives the microwave, and doesn’t hold yesterday’s garlic for a week. A plain glass container with a snap-lock lid does all of that. Divided ones like Prep Naturals or Glasslock are fine if you like your food separate, but a single compartment is actually more flexible — you can throw soup, a salad, or straight-up leftovers in there.
Plastic is worth considering if you walk or bike to work and don’t want the weight. Rubbermaid Brilliance is the one plastic line I’d trust: it’s genuinely leakproof and doesn’t warp in the microwave. Everything else — bamboo lids, cheap thin plastic that stains from tomato sauce, expensive bento boxes with little fork holders — is just stuff you’ll be annoyed by by Wednesday.
Buy five or six identical ones. Nesting and stacking works way better when nothing is a weird size, and you’ll never dig around for the matching lid again.
Your Sunday self does the cooking; the container just needs to stay out of the way.
