Blade Runner (1982) and Pink Floyd’s 23-minute epic “Echoes” (from Meddle, 1971) share a deep thematic kinship: both are soaked in isolation, the haunting presence of artificial life, and the slow erosion of time. The film’s rain-lashed future and the song’s oceanic, echoing drift feel like two sides of the same existential coin.

But was the song ever actually used in the film? No – not in any official release. However, a persistent rumor claims that director Ridley Scott considered using the closing section of “Echoes” for the end credits. He ultimately went with Vangelis’s score instead. The myth has been fueled by bootleg soundtracks and fan edits that splice the song into the film’s final minutes, where it fits eerily well.
