The budget lunch box is leftovers, not recipes
Packing a cheap college lunch is a system, not a recipe: cook extra at dinner, throw it in a container, and keep one no-cook backup.
The fastest way to save money is to stop buying food on campus. But that only works if it’s stupid easy. Cook a big batch of something simple at the start of the week — rice and beans, pasta, chili — or just make extra dinner and pack the rest for tomorrow. No separate meal prep session required.
For days when you have nothing ready, keep a backup you can assemble in two minutes: peanut butter sandwich, tortilla with hummus, hard-boiled eggs, a piece of fruit. Leftovers plus a backup covers almost every scenario.
Don’t buy a fancy bento box. A cheap container and a reusable bag are enough. The savings come from the food choices, not the gear.
Eating the same thing three days in a row is fine. You’re in college, not a restaurant critic.
