The cheese barrier solves soggy wraps
Wraps go soggy because wet fillings sit against the tortilla for hours, and the fix is either a barrier or a separate container.
Moisture always wins. Tomatoes, salsa, cucumber, saucy chicken — all that liquid migrates into the tortilla and turns it into a damp towel. You can’t out-wrap it. So the two moves are: keep wet stuff away, or block it.
The barrier trick is a slice of cheese or a big lettuce leaf laid flat between the tortilla and the wet fillings. Even a thin smear of cream cheese or butter works. It’s not about flavor — it’s a drywall layer.
The other option is full separation. Pack the salsa, sour cream, or tomatoes in a small sauce pot and add them at lunch. This is the lazy-proof method: the tortilla stays dry even if you prepped it the night before. Two side notes: don’t cut the wrap in half, because cut edges leak, and let hot fillings cool completely before rolling, since steam is just moisture in disguise. If it’s going in the microwave later, toast the tortilla in a dry pan first — it holds up way better.
A dry tortilla is a happy tortilla.
