The Composite Track on Love You Live’s 1975 L.A. Forum Side

The Stones’ 1977 double live album Love You Live is a patchwork of different eras. Side 4 features material from the 1975 tour, recorded at the L.A. Forum in July. But one song on that side—“Sympathy for the Devil”—wasn’t a single take. It’s actually a composite stitched together from two different Forum shows.

Keith Richards admitted in interviews that they spliced the best parts of two nights to get a definitive version. You can hear the edit around the guitar solo. It’s subtle, but for live-album purists, it’s a little studio slickness on an otherwise raw set.
