The death of L'Wren Scott and the Rolling Stones' 2014 tour cancellations

L’Wren Scott, the fashion designer and longtime partner of Mick Jagger, died by suicide on March 17, 2014, at her Manhattan apartment. She was 49. The couple had been together since 2001, and her sudden death came as a complete shock to Jagger, who was on tour in Australia at the time.

The Rolling Stones immediately postponed the first 14 dates of their “14 On Fire” tour, which was set to kick off in Australia and New Zealand. In a statement, the band said Jagger needed time to grieve and that they would reschedule the shows. Jagger later released his own message calling Scott his “lover and best friend” and saying he was “still trying to come to terms with her death.” The tour resumed four months later in Oslo, with Jagger visibly emotional during performances of songs like “Angie” and “Wild Horses.”
