The Division Bell: Pink Floyd's First Studio Album to Top US and UK Charts Since The Wall

In 1994, Pink Floyd released The Division Bell, their fourteenth studio album. It became their first studio album since The Wall (1979) to reach No. 1 on both the US Billboard 200 and the UK Albums Chart. That’s a fifteen-year gap between chart-topping studio efforts—though they did have a live album (Delicate Sound of Thunder) and a compilation (A Collection of Great Dance Songs) hit No. 1 in the UK or US in the meantime.

The album’s commercial success surprised some critics who’d written the band off as a post-Roger Waters relic. The Division Bell sold over three million copies in its first year, fueled by the single “Take It Back” and a massive world tour. It’s a reminder that even without Waters, Pink Floyd still commanded a global audience.
