The 2019 stereo remix of The Division Bell included in The Later Years box set is not the same as the 2014 5.1 surround mix—it’s a brand new stereo mix created from scratch.

Engineer Andy Jackson, who had handled the 5.1 surround mix for the 2014 Immersion box, revisited the multitracks to build a fresh stereo version. The result is subtly different: some tracks have alternate vocal takes, like “Take It Back,” and the overall balance leans more toward clarity and separation than the original 1994 mix or the 5.1 downmix.

So if you were wondering whether the 2019 version was just a fold-down of the surround mix, it’s not. It’s a distinct stereo remaster—cleaner, with more punch, and occasionally different performances hiding in the corners.
