The dry-erase marker trick actually works

The easiest way to remove permanent marker from a whiteboard is to scribble over it with a dry-erase marker, then wipe it off.

It sounds too simple, but it works. Dry-erase markers contain a solvent that dissolves the permanent ink. You’re basically using the same chemistry that put the ink there to break it down. Just cover the permanent marks completely with dry-erase ink, give it a second, and wipe with a cloth or eraser. It’ll come off like it was never there.

If you don’t have a dry-erase marker handy, rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer also does the job. Those are more of a backup though. The dry-erase trick is faster and doesn’t smell like a doctor’s office.

One warning: don’t press hard or let the marks sit for weeks. Whiteboards are non-porous, but old permanent ink can stain if it’s baked in by heat or sunlight. For fresh marks
