The First Pink Floyd Album to Go Gold in the U.S.

The first Pink Floyd album to earn gold certification in the United States was The Dark Side of the Moon. The RIAA awarded the gold record on June 1, 1973 — just a couple months after the album’s March 1 release.

This milestone was a massive commercial breakthrough for a band that had previously struggled to chart in America. Dark Side would go on to sell millions, become one of the best-selling albums of all time, and spend over 900 weeks on the Billboard 200.
